The School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences has its origins in the Northampton Institute of Technology, founded in 1894. With some 1300 students and 100 staff, the school offers first class education and research in a carefully selected number of niche areas in engineering and the mathematical sciences. Our balanced portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses is informed by relevant research activities in the following key areas; advanced industrial applications for transportation, applied mathematics, construction processes, instrumentation and sensors, systems and control.
All the MEng and BEng courses are accredited by the relevant professional bodies and provide a foundation for and exemptions from the route to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Many of the courses in the school's thriving postgraduate programme have been developed in consultation with industry, and they are offered part time as well as full time to allow students to update their education, while remaining in employment.
